How Long Do Modular Homes Last: The Lifespan of Modular Homes in PA

Posted in General on November 13, 2015 by Tia Willow

modular home sin PAOne of the most popular modular home myths is the idea that modular homes have a shorter lifespan than a stick-built home. The assumption is that because it’s constructed in a factory before being set-up on a foundation, a modular home’s construction is lesser than a stick-built home. This particular myth couldn’t be further from the truth.

Generally speaking, all homes need a certain amount of upkeep throughout the years to keep the property structurally sound and safe to live in. Myths surrounding modular homes suggest that they deteriorate faster than stick-built homes. In fact, modular homes in PA can often be of better quality than many stick-built homes. Each one can be traced back to a manufacturer who is subject to third party inspections throughout the building process, as well as quality control teams who examine the homes prior to shipping. Modular home owners have no need to fear poor quality construction!

The myth that modular homes cannot withstand inclement weather is a major false. Severe weather, including tornadoes and hurricanes, has the ability to damage thousands of structures regardless of where or how they are built. However, modular homes are required to travel – intact – from the factory location to the location where the home will be set-up. Therefore, modular homes are constructed to withstand at least a steady, 70mph wind for several hours. If you’re considering purchasing a modular home in PA, you can rest assured that your home is very safe from most weather conditions.

During the construction of a stick-built home, the structure is subject to weather changes such as snow, wind, rain and ice. Weather changes can delay the construction process and have the ability to damage the wood and other materials used in the construction. If you’re considering a modular home, your construction time will not be extended due to weather changes and the home will not be subjected to damaging weather until the home set-up is completed. Modular homes are built in a climate controlled factory, preventing damage or delay during construction.

modular homes in PAThe myth that a modular homes in PA can’t increase in value is very false. Modular homes, manufactured homes, and stick-built homes all depreciate and appreciate the same. Of course a modular home can depreciate if it isn’t cared for or if the land decreases in value. It’s common for modular homes and manufactured homes to sell for a higher price than what the original homeowners paid for the construction and set-up of the home – just as it is for stick-built home owners.

Modular homes in PA are great, quality homes that can be an affordable option for new home buyers or those on a limited budget.
